Mari Vittradotter is a performing artist, choreographer, dancer, actor, and movement director based in Gothenburg, with roots in a small village outside Örnsköldsvik. Her deep passion lies in dance theater, and she works transdisciplinarily with dance, voice, text, and physical expression – often engaging with themes around the human psyche, feminist/queer perspectives, and other contemporary social issues. She also has a strong interest in exploring existential questions, learning everything about specific animals, ethology, and the brain.
Her artistic practice starts from the belief that the body holds stories and intentions – every movement contains an inner narrative that gives the work its meaning and direction. She is particularly interested in creating works that are both physically and conceptually engaging, where movement and narrative intertwine to open new perspectives and dialogues. She is devoted to movement – movements she experiences in everyday life, within herself, in others, and in shared moments. When different art forms are allowed to meet, multiple dimensions of the story emerge, clashing, harmonizing, and generating new worlds in the space.
Through her art, she seeks to spark empathy, laughter, new ways of thinking, and curiosity about the mysteries of life and the human condition, while creating space for reaction – physical, emotional, or political – and inviting discussion and reflection.
